		<description>Thinking about intersections of science &#38; the arts, I think of a passage by the scholar William Cronon: â€œMore than anything else, being an educated person means being able to see connections that allow one to make sense of the world and act within it in creative ways.  â€¦  A liberal education [in the intellectual, not the political sense] is about gaining the power and the wisdom, the generosity and the freedom to connect.â€ (http://www.williamcronon.net/writing/Cronon_Only_Connect.pdf)  
In this day and age of increasing academic specialization and decreasing ability for cross-disciplinary understanding, islands of discourse are sorely needed.  True innovation has in the past and will in the future spring most successfully at intellectual cross-roads.</description>
